What garden work costs in this region, and — more usefully — what makes one garden twice the price of the one next door.

What actually drives the price
Three things, in this order.
- Access. A garden reachable only through the living room is roughly twice the labour of one with a back gate. This is the single largest factor in Amsterdam and almost nobody mentions it upfront.
- Disposal. Green waste, old paving and soil all leave by container, and container costs differ per municipality.
- Ground. Peat needs more preparation than sand. In Haarlem and Amsterdam, assume peat unless you know otherwise.
VAT
Garden work for private customers is charged at 21% VAT. Labour on homes older than two years is sometimes eligible for the reduced rate; where that applies we put it on the quote, and where it does not we say so.
How working with us actually goes
You send a short description of the job. We come and look, in person, and you get a written quote with the work broken down per item — no lump sum that hides what you are paying for.
- We speak English on site and in writing.
- The quote is fixed unless you change the job; if we hit something we could not see beforehand, you hear it before we carry on.
- We work across Amsterdam and the surrounding area, so travel is not billed as a separate surprise.
- Green waste is removed and disposed of properly.
If you are renting, check with your landlord first: in the Netherlands the division between tenant and owner for garden work is set in the rental contract, and it decides who pays.
